In this modern day, web is a wonderful place to be. It's increasingly become a knowledge hub for everybody; even strollers around the world. And you know what the best part is? It does not have a tribe, religion, race or color, that's where perhaps its strength lies in. Online, no matter what you are after, from details of products to how to use them, from fruit varieties to language origins, from how to hack Facebook account to how to set up a custom domain name in Blogger. Each and everything is there, in abundance and easily available.

Now I know you are here to understand how you can setup your own custom domain on your Blogger account. So let's get on with it, without further delay. But before we start, I like you to know that it isn't difficult to add a custom domain into your blogger account. If you are a blogger, it's perfect if you already own your own blog, it shows your passion and love for blogging and provides you with freedom to move from one platform to another, when and if you need to move. Also from users perspective, it's much easier for them to remember and visit your blog at customized address like exampleblog.com than exampleblog.blogspot.com.

One of the best things about Blogger is that it does not push you to host your site with blogger. It is entirely your own choice to choose from either of two hosting plans 'hosting on BlogSpot' with address exampleblog.blogspot.com, or going with a custom domain with address exampleblog.com.

There are two ways you can publish your blog on Blogger, the ways are below
Step 1. Host your blog on Blogspot domain eg (example.blogspot.com)

Step 2. Host your blog (blogger) on your own custom domain (www.example.com or foo.example.com). You can change where your blog is published at any time, and it won't cause you to lose any content on your site.

For step one (1), simply go to blogspot.com to register, and you must have a gmail account to do that. But for the sake of this article, we shall be talking about step  two (2)

Before you can achieve step two, you must have done step one. After the completion of step one, please do the following:

A. First, purchase a custom domain
Before you move your blog to a custom domain, you need to have already purchased a custom domain from us Fajiweb Solutions. Buy the domain at http://www.fajiweb.com/domain-registration.php

B. Next, set up your domain with your blog

Before doing this part, you need to determine where you would like to host your blog. Do you want it hosted on your main domain? That is you want it to be host on a top-level domain (www.example.com). or do you want it to be hosted on a sub domain (me.example.com)
REMEMBER, subdomain dont carry www to access it

To put your blog in on a top-level domain (www.example.com), do the following

After you've purchased your custom domain, follow the steps below:

1. SET UP THE NAME SERVER FOR CUSTOM BLOGGER DOMAIN
Here you will have to change the name server from fajiweb web hosting name server to BoldRight (fajiweb) custom domain name server for blogger.

To do this, go to your fajiweb client area on our website www.fajiweb.com, To access the client area, go to www.fajiweb.com, click on client area at the top of the page; it will open another page. On that page, enter your username and password. Your username is your email address you used when making the purchase of the domain and your password  is your password that you used when making the purchase of the domain name from fajiweb solutions. After entering all the correct details, click on login. On successful login, click on DOMAINS or click on My Account at the right top of the page, then click on My Domains. When you click on DOMAINS or My Domains, a new page will display, there you will see the name of the domain or the package you bought and your domain name that you bought; eg

saveakimuschool.com

or

Faji Cliq
saveakimuschool.com

then click on the green botton written Active. After clicking on Active, it will open another page. Click on Nameserver at the left hand side of the page. When the page open you will see the below

Nameserver 1
Nameserver 2
Nameserver 3
Nameserver 4
Nameserver 5

you will also see
Use custom nameservers (enter below) (this is not ticked)
now tick use custom nameservers and enter BoldRight (fajiweb) custom domain name server for blogger to be as below

Nameserver 1 ENTER dns1.boldright.net IN THIS BOX
Nameserver 2 ENTER dns2.boldright.net IN THIS BOX
Nameserver 3 ENTER dns3.boldright.net IN THIS BOX
Nameserver 4 ENTER dns4.boldright.net IN THIS BOX
Nameserver 5 LEAVE THI BOX BLANK

After doing the above, click on Change Nameservers botton to change the name server from from fajiweb web hosting name server to BoldRight (fajiweb) custom domain name server for blogger.

2. SET UP YOUR CUSTOM DOMAIN AT BLOGGER WEBSITE, SO THAT YOUR DOMAIN WILL POINT TO YOUR BLOGGER SUB DOMAIN
To do this, login to your blog account at blogspot.com, click on Settings tab,  then click on Basics. In the "Publishing" section, click on the link written Set up a third-party URL for your blog.

Add a custom domain

After clicking on Set up a third-party URL for your blog, under Third-party domain settings you will see http:// near a box; type the url of the domain you've purchased, keeping in mind that it must begin with www in order to work, after typing, click save botton at the bottom.

NOTE:
AFTER CLICKING ON THE SAVE BOTTON, IT WILL DISPLAY THE FOLLOWING ERROR
We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12.
On your domain registrar's website, locate your Domain Name System (DNS) settings and enter the following two CNAMEs:
DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT, IT IS TELLING YOU TO GO AND CONFIGURE YOUR DNS

You will also see the below
NameLabel or Host fieldDestinationTarget or Points To field
www ghs.google.com
chmd6hv3poq4 gv-ueqqt4kmk6ojau.dv.googlehosted.com

The above is what you will use to configure your DNS
They are the two CNAMEs you need to enter into the DNS Management panel. Each CNAME is composed of two parts - Name, Label or Host and Destination, Target or Points to.
The first CNAME is the same for everyone, Name being "www" and Destination "ghs.google.com." The second CNAME is particular to your blog and your Google Account, and this is therefore different for each person, make sure to copy the one you see in your blogger when you see the error message, not the one written on the article. If you copy the one writeen here, it will not work for you.

3. CONFIGURE YOUR DNS

Click on DNS Management at the left hand side of the page. When the page open you will see the below.

Host NameRecord TypeAddressPriority

under Host Name put www, then under Record Type choose CNAME (Alias), under Address put ghs.google.com, under Priority leave this as blank and click on save.

after entering and saving the changes, you will then have the below

Host NameRecord TypeAddressPriority
N/A

Then you will repeat the same process for the 2nd cname, now under Host Name put chmd6hv3poq4 (Remember not to put chmd6hv3poq4, put the one you see in your error page, putting chmd6hv3poq4 on this article will not work for you), then under Record Type choose CNAME (Alias), under Address put gv-ueqqt4kmk6ojau.dv.googlehosted.com (Remember not to put gv-ueqqt4kmk6ojau.dv.googlehosted.com, put the one you see in your error page, putting gv-ueqqt4kmk6ojau.dv.googlehosted.com on this article will not work for you), under Priority leave this as blank and click on save

after entering and saving the changes, you will then have the below

Host NameRecord TypeAddressPriority
N/A
N/A

4. CONFIGURE A RECORDS (This step is Optional)

This step is optional according to google, BUT I SAY THIS STEP IS COMPUSORY. On this step, you will need to enter A Records, which links your naked domain (saveakimuschool.com) to an actual site (www.saveakimuschool.com). If you skip this step, visitors who leave off the "www" will see an error page that is if your visitor type saveakimuschool.com instead of www.saveakimuschool.com they will NEVER SEE YOUR BLOG SITE, instead they will see an error page; trust me I believe you wont like this.  So to avoid this, you need to configure your A Record and point it to google IPS. After entering A- Records, enter your domain name in the format saveakimuschool.com (but if you are using fajiweb, instead of put your domain saveakimuschool.com, put @ then list the I.P. Addresses)

You'll need to create four separate A-records which point to four different Google IPs listed below.

216.239.32.21
216.239.34.21
216.239.36.21
216.239.38.21

HOW TO CREATE THE A RECORDS WITH GOOGLE IP
Remembered we saw the below

Host NameRecord TypeAddressPriority

under Host Name put @, then under Record Type choose A (Address), under Address put 216.239.32.21, under Priority leave this as blank and click on save.  After saving the changes, you will then have the below

Host NameRecord TypeAddressPriority
N/A
N/A
N/A

You will need to continue this same procedure to enter all the four google IP. after entering all the IP and sacing, you will have the below

Host NameRecord TypeAddressPriority
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A

NOTE:
The system might automatically add so more fields with informations to the above that you did, you dont have to worry. Just ignore them. The other informations added automatically by the system is what the system uses in processing. So you may later see something like the below

Host NameRecord TypeAddressPriority
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A
N/A

Before you move onto the final step (MAKING YOUR CUSTOM DOMAIN AT BLOGGER WEBSITE TO WORK), wait about 1 hour to 24 hours for your DNS settings to activate at google end. If you attempt the final step before your settings are activated, google will let you know with a warning/error message.

5. MAKING YOUR CUSTOM DOMAIN AT BLOGGER WEBSITE TO WORK
After your settings have been activated, you need to make sure Blogger knows about your custom domain so that Google can direct readers to your blog. Just head back to Blogger and update the information on your Settings | Basic tab. Find the area for "Publishing," and click the link to add a custom domain.

Enter URL and save

Congratulation! by now your blogspot.com address will soon redirect to your new custom domain -- be patient, as it might take up to 24 hours for the redirect to start working. If you're still seeing an error after 24 hours, it means your settings weren't entered correctly and you should try the process again for the second time.

Some helpful notes:
  • If your new domain isn't taking you to your blog, wait another day or two to make sure all the DNS servers have been updated. If it still isn't working, contact your registrar to make sure you entered the DNS settings correctly.

  • Your original Blogspot address will automatically forward to your new domain. That way, any existing links or bookmarks to your site will still work

6. REDIRECTION OF YOUR DOMAIN VISITORS
This is the last and final step to take. This step is also optionalBUT I SAY THIS STEP IS COMPUSORY. This is the step that help to redirect visitors that visit saveakimuschool.com to www.saveakimuschool.com, this process help google to rank your site better and faster.

To achieve this, login to your blog account at blogspot.com, click on Settings tab,  then click on Basics. In the "Publishing" section,
you will see the domain name you added with Edit written beside it.  www.saveakimuschool.com  Edit, click on the Edit botton. On opening, click on the box written Redirect saveakimuschool.com to www.saveakimuschool.com; then click the save botton. After doing this, now your blogger is fully setup with your custom domain name. Big, Big Congrat!
